RIDER STORY
I’m Charly from Belgium and I’m a journalist for a motorcycle magazine. I took this unique opportunity to participate in the Bucket List program from Harley-Davidson to the North Cape. My father who stopped riding motorcycles since I was born – already thirty years ago – decided to join me on this epic road trip. Therefor it was an extra challenge for us to ride 2.500 km in one week. Although with the easy-to-handle Harley-Davidson Pan America and Norway’s smooth roads, my father was instantly riding like I was born yesterday. I chose the Harley-Davidson Heritage Classic which is a completely different motorbike but it matched the relaxed cruising scenery from Norway perfectly.
My top 5 points of interest on the road:
- The Northcape
- Road to the surf town Unstad in the Lofoten
- The island of Senja which is just stunning and even more remote than the rest of the Lofoten
- Mountain pass on the E6 next to Sørstraumen
- Road to Fjordgård
My top 5 highlights:
- The last few kilometers to the North Cape are beyond belief as you literally feel like riding to the end of the world.
- The E6 through the steppes inland from Alta to Olderjord serve you a completely different scenery from the coastal roads. You would start to think you’re the last person in the world.
- Some beaches in the Lofoten are famous with surfers. I loved the relaxed vibes in the town of Unstad with his white beaches and almost tropical looking water makes you want to pick up a surf board and catch some waves.
- Delicious Reindeer pizza in a random gas station close to Olderfjord
- The endless tunnels, even some of them with roundabouts.
“I’m blessed to travel the world on a motorbike for my income and therefor I get to see lots of stunning roads. With this rich experience in the back of mind I’m confident to say that Norway is still my number one travel destination despite the harsh weather conditions sometimes. You won’t experience a dull moment as every view or road is spectacular from the start to the end! Also, the tranquility from the surroundings and absent traffic makes you want to keep riding forever. Along the road you will find all kinds of wildlife minding their own business as you don’t exist. The fresh air is a free surplus which gives you an extra energy boost. Every red hut along the road which looked empty made me want to halt and dream about a new life in this vast country.”
